July 23, 2008 — The 2008 Aflac Iron Girl Lake Las Vegas Triathlon will be broadcast this Saturday, July 26, on NBC (channel 6 locally) from 2:30-3:30 p.m. The broadcast documents the tri journeys of several women who have battled cancer, as well as other empowering stories.

July 21, 2008 — The big winner of the 10th Annual Ironman Lake Placid Sunday was the rain—more than 3 inches fell pretty much constantly from soon after the race’s start until the finish after dark.

July 21, 2008 — Joe Sheehan of Melrose, Massachusetts and Lauren Trocchio of Cape Elizabeth won the men’s and women’s Peaks to Portland Swim Saturday finishing the 2.4-mile swim in 42:11 and 48:42 respectively

July 21, 2008 — A small but strong field of cyclists entered the Presque Isle Time Trial, the eighth race in the state-wide Peak Performance Maine Time Trial Series.

Pat's Pizza Clam Festival Classic 5-Miler—celebrating that dubious mix of running and fried clams.

July 21, 2008 — Jon Wilson, 20 of Falmouth, won Pat’s Pizza Clam Festival Classic 5-Miler in Yarmouth on Saturday with a time of 25:44. Kristin Barry, 34 of Scarborough, won the women’s overall in 27:59.

Nearly 200 kids take part in the Clam Festival Classic Kid’s Run.

July 21, 2008 — Eric Wilcox, 11 of New Gloucester, crushed the competition outdistancing his nearest competitor by six seconds in Saturday’s Clam Festival Classic Kids’ Run.

July 15, 2008 — After months and months of training, the 42 Mainers signed up to compete in this year’s Ironman USA Lake Placid, New York, on July 20 are now making final preparations for the big event...and we'll be there.

July 14, 2008 — John Meerse and Erin Brennan both of Portland were the overall winners of Sunday’s Maine Bike Rally Time Trial in Fryeburg with times of 39:33 and 45:02.

July 14, 2008 — [updated 7/15] Mike Caiazzo of Westbrook simply blew the field away Sunday winning the Scarborough Triathlon in 59:48:35 about six minutes ahead of his nearest competitor.

Galindez and Bentley win Sunday’s inaugural Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island.

July 14, 2008 — Charlie Carter, 29 of Portland, finished first among Mainers with a time of 4:44:23 and in 82nd place overall. David Painter, 46 of Bar Harbor, was second in a time of 4:59:05 (171st place).

July 7, 2008 — John Meerse of Portland, won in a time of 26:27 and Erin Brennan also of Portland, 16th overall, won the women's division by completing the race in a time of 30:05.

July 7, 2008 — With an international field limited to a little more than 2,000 racers, 41 Mainers signed up to compete in this year’s Ironman USA Lake Placid, New York, on July 20.

July 6, 2008 — Chris Schulten of Middlefield, Connecticut, won Sunday’s Patriot Half Ironman in Freetown, Massachusetts, in 4:23:17.

July 6, 2008 — Bob Winn, one of Maine’s most decorated runners, won Friday’s Four on the Fourth 4-miler in York, beating out a field of more than 945 runners with a time of 21:10.

Fontaine and Laroche win Winthrop’s Friends on the 4th 5K.

July 6, 2008 — Luke Fontaine, 16 of Augusta, won Friday’s Friends on the 4th 5K in Winthrop by less than a second over Danny Soltan, 18 of Winthrop.

Huppe and Iselborn win at Goose Rocks.

July 6, 2008 — Nathan Huppe, 28 of Dover, New Hampshire, won Friday’s 14th Annual G.R.B.A. 5K at Goose Rocks Beach, Kennebunkport, in 15:49.

Pyle and Buterbaugh win the Bridgton Four on the Fourth.

July 5, 2008 — Stan Pyle, 27 of South Casco, and Carry Buterbaugh, 36 of South Portland, won the Bridgton Four on the Fourth Friday.

Hemphill and Barry win the L. L. Bean 10K.

July 4, 2008 — The hometown guy – Ethan Hemphill, 35 of Freeport – won Friday’s L. L. Bean 10K in 32:15.

July 1, 2008 — No worries getting shut out of this year’s Hope Sprint Triathlon in the town of Hope (est. population 1,310) about six miles northwest of Camden.

Cake wins the Tour du Lac.

July 1, 2008 — Judson Cake, 3O of Bar Harbor, took first at the 33rd Tour du Lac 10-mile road race in Bucksport with a time of 51:46.
