Cake wins the Tour du Lac.

July 1, 2008

One of this year’s favored runners won one of Eastern Maine’s favorite races Saturday. Judson Cake, 3O of Bar Harbor, took first at the 33rd Tour du Lac 10-mile road race in Bucksport with a time of 51:46.

Amy Neadeau, 33 of Belchertown, Massachusetts, crushed the women’s field, completing the course in 1:00:40, nearly 12 minutes ahead of women’s second place winner Allison Dorko, 21 of Bar Harbor. Dorko finished in 1:12:09.

Evan Graves, 26 of Presque Isle, took second in 53:34. Erik Neadeau, 36 of Belchertown, Massachusetts, was third in 54:52.

Eighty-two finishers took part in what’s billed as a true test for runners. The race has it all: flats, tough uphills, downhills, not to mention the rolling stuff. The course record is still held by Gerry Clapper’s 50:48, set in 1986.

Cake, who won this year’s Sugarloaf Marathon with the third fastest ever time of 2:23:29, recently set the course record at the Tremont Trot 4-miler in 19:35, a 4:54 per mile pace.
