Women triathletes and future women triathletes need to tune in.
July 23, 2008The 2008 Aflac Iron Girl Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, featuring a intermediate distance event, as well as highlights from the sprint, will be broadcast this Saturday, July 26, on NBC (Channel 6 locally) from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Originally taped on April 12, more than 800 females, aged 11 to 68 took part in the two events. Winner Mirinda Carfrae and other world pros including 2006 Ironman 70.3 world champ Samantha McGlone took part. Becky Lavelle (in town this weekend for the Urban Epic before heading off to the Olympics) and Iron legend Karen Smyers also competed.
The broadcast documents the tri journeys of several women who have battled cancer, as well as other empowering stories. Should be a very inspirational and motivating prelude to Maine's first all women Tri for a Cure triathlon on August 9th.
Registration for the 2009 Aflac Iron Girl Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, scheduled for Saturday, May 9, will open during the start of the broadcast.
