Just show up for the Hope Sprint Tri set for July 12.
July 1, 2008No worries getting shut out of this year’s Hope Sprint Triathlon in the town of Hope (est. population 1,310) about six miles northwest of Camden.
Registration will be held the day of the race, Saturday, July 12, at 7 a.m. at the intersection of the road to Hobbs Pond and Barnstown Road. How’s that for a small town race feel? The race starts at 8 a.m.
Applications are available online here, Hope General Store or Bikesenjava in Rockland.
Proceeds from the $40 registration fee ($100 per team), go to benefit the town's volunteer fire department building fund.
The event will cover a quarter-mile swim in Hobbs Pond, a 13-mile bike ride around Hope and Camden, and a 3.1-mile run on routes 105 and 235 and parts of Barnstown Road in Hope. And everyone gets a a commemorative T-shirt.
Last year, just 76 triathletes competed. Jim Swormstedt, 38 of Laconia, New Hampshire, beat defending champion Tom Hedstrom, 31 of Camden, by about a minute with a time of 1:08:46. The first female finisher was Amy Root, 36 of Union. She finished in 1:17:25 and was ninth overall.
