Meerse and Brennan win Fryeburg time trial.
July 14, 2008John Meerse and Erin Brennan both of Portland were the overall winners of Sunday’s Maine Bike Rally Time Trial in Fryeburg with times of 39:33 and 45:02.
Patrick Ruane took second eight seconds behind Meerse with a time of 39:41. Doug Chiasson of Athol, MA, winning the men’s 45-54 age category was third in 40:03. James Marshall Shaftsbury, MA, winning the men’s 55-64 age group was fourth in 40:26.
Lynda Colson-Hendrick of Wells was the second fastest woman in 46:55, also winning the women’s 45-55 age group. Liddy Hubbell of Bar Harbor was third in 47:14.
More than 70+ racers took part in the 18 mile course.
Other age group winners include John Marshall of Addison (mens 65-74 in 47:54); Ben Civiletti (mens 17-and-under in 50:02); Gwendolyn O’Guin of South Portland (women’s 55-64 in 51:05); and Katie West (women’s 18-34 in 1:10:19).
The Fryeburg Time Trial is number seven of 12 featured races in the 2008 Peak Performance Maine Time Trial series.
Time trials are rider-friendly races where participants start out 30 seconds apart with no drafting allowed. It's each bicyclist (on any type of bike) racing the clock.
