Hemphill and Piers win Portland Sea Dogs Mother’s Day 5K.

Mother’s Day perennial favorite and pace setter Ethan Hemphill, 35, of Freeport  won the Portland Sea Dogs Mother’s Day 5K in 15:14, ahead of 1900 other runners made up of mothers or people who have or have had a mother.  Judson Cake, 30, of Bar Harbor took second in 15:19 and Jonathan Wilson, 20, of Falmouth finished third in 15:19.

Sheri Piers, 36, of Falmouth won the women’s overall in 17:26 running in with training partner Kristin Barry, 34, of Scarborough, also with a time of 17:26 and matching Barry’s course record.  Once again Carry Buterbaugh, 36, of South Portland was third in 17:59.

More than 1900+ runners finished this year’s event, an increase of 500 over last year's record participants.

Female age group winners include Emily Durgin, 14, of Standish in 18:48; Hannah Hohnston, 17, of Kennebunk in 20:48; Andrea Newton, 23, of Portland in 22:20; Suzanne Hussey-Ray, 27, of Saco in 19:24; Jessica Ward, 32, of Lyman in 19:20; Amy Lilley, 36, of Scarborough in 20:02; Christine Reaser, 42, of Dayton in 18:57; Jeanne Hackett, 49, of Scarborough in 19:10; Nancy Grant, 50, of Portland, in 22:41; Carol Fanning, 57, of South Portland in 21:49; Joan Tremberth, 63, of Scarborough in 26:14; Gretchen Read, 65, of Portland in 23:58; Polly Kenniston, 71, of Scarborough in 27:22; Janice Bilodeau, 75, of Auburn in 37:25; and Dottie Gray, 82, of Shrewsbury, MA in 44:03;.

Male age group winners include Peter Lepage, 14, of Limerick in 19:24; Mark Sargent Halver, 19, of Falmouth in 16:27; Kirby Davis, 23, of Falmouth in 15:32; Claton Conrad, 25, of North Yarmouth, in 15:31; Alfred Hanscom, 32, of Limestone, in 18:00; Paul Green, 36, of Falmouth in 16:04; Mark Goettel, 41, of Cumberland Center in 16:34; Bill Mariski, 47, of Portland in 16:58; Tom Ryan, 52, of Cape Elizabeth in 17:01; James Toulouse, 59, of Cape Elizabeth in 19:28; Steve Rud, 60, of Wiscassett in 19:03; Charles Sawyer, 66, of Norridgewock in 23:26; Jerry Levasseur, 70, of Brunswick in 23:43; Lloyd Slocum, 75, of Hollis in 23:58; and Lou Peters, 83, of Methuen, MA in 40:29.
