Presque Isle Time Trial Results.
July 21, 2008A small but strong field of cyclists entered the Presque Isle Time Trial, the eighth race in the state-wide Peak Performance Maine Time Trial Series.
Peter Forbes, Race Director, said, "The weather conditions were nearly ideal. Parsons Road dried off nicely from the early morning showers, temperatures were in the 70s and the winds were less than 5 mph".
The time trial course gently follows the Aroostook River for 7.5 miles from Presque Isle to Washburn before turning back toward the start-finish line. The event ran smoothly and there were no injuries despite a close call for one of the cyclists when a motorist failed to signal and turned left in front of him. His excellent bike handling skills helped him avoid a collision.
Daniel Hickey, Lincolnville finished first in a time of 34:13. Von Perry, Easton, a local time trial specialist finished 44 seconds back in second place. The men's age group winners were Guy Berthiaume, M55-64, Daniel Hickey, M45-54, Tim Bryce, M35-44, Neal Sleeper, M18-34, and Chris Warden, U18.
The event was worth a lot of points for the women as all the entrants won their age category. Liddy Hubbell set a new women’s course record with a time of 37:58. Laurie Krzywda held the women’s record set last year and finished in 41:37. Stephanie Caverhill rode here first ever time trial and finished in 43:54.
Forbes said he couldn’t have done it without the sponsorship of Mojo and the help of a great crew of volunteers: Hal Stewart, Penny McHatten, Kyle Washington, Stan MacArthur, and Jonathan Kelly.
