The running weekend kicked off early on Friday with the 11th Edition Kennebunk Library 5K on Friday, July 11.
About 200 runners, ages 8 to 74, completed the race. Bob Winn, 49 of Ogunquit, finished first with a time of 16:24. Mike Tinkham, 18 of Waterboro, was second with a time of 17:01; and Matthew Van Dentten, 18 of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, finished third in 17:19.
Victoria Hewey, 17 of Sanford, led the top three women finishers with a time of 20:04. Katherine Reid, 32, was second, and Rachel Murer, 35 of Kennebunk, was third. Kennebunk’s Schwartzman sisters – Hallie, age 8, and Kyra, 10 – finished just one second apart, taking the top two spots in the Female 10 and Under category. Hallie finished first in 34:33 and Kyra in 34:34.
Michael Caron, also of Kennebunk, was the fastest male age 10 and under. The nine-year-old finished in 33:31.

Moxie Day 5K
For 25 years, the Moxie Festival in Lisbon Falls has celebrated the joys of Maine’s most famous beverage. For the past 13, the festival has included a 5K race.
Ethan Hemphill, 35 of Freeport, won the annual race in a blistering pace of 4:54/mile - winning time of 15:12. Nicholas Wheeler, 22 of Buxton, was close behind finishing second in an overall time of 15:33. Erik McCarthy, 27 of Greene, was third (15:42) and Steven McCarthy, 21 of Greene, was fourth (15:55).
This year Chelsea Leeman, 20 of Brunswick, was the first woman to cross the finish line with a time of 19:42. Kelly Brown, 44 of Lewiston, and Debby Hall, 43 of Westfield, New Jersey, were second and third. Brown had a time of 20:03; and Hall finished in 21:00.
About 270 runners crossed the finish line. Nicole's Run.
Friends, family and those hoping to make a difference in the fight against domestic abuse ran in the first Nicole’s Run Sunday at Lord’s Point in Kennebunk Beach. The 5K race was organized to honor Nicole Oliver, a 24-year-old mother of two who was killed by her husband just a year ago.
Nearly 300 runners participated in the first ever race to benefit Caring Unlimited, organization that works to raise awareness and provide financial assistance to the victims of domestic abuse.
Joshua Sklanka, 19 of Watertown, Connecticut, finished first with a time of 18:16. Dave Howard, 42 of Portland, was second in 18:38; and Philip Hussey, 16 of Kennebunk, was third in 19:36.
Katherine Reid, 32 of Cape Porpoise, was first in the women’s division, and placed eighth overall. Her time was 20:54. Ericka McCaffrey, 54 of Cape Porpoise, was second with a time of 21:37; and Kendra Drinkwater, 34 of Steep Falls, was third in 22:19.

Scarborough Summerfest 5K
Chris Harmon, 20, and our own Jeanne Hackett, 49, won Friday’s Scarborough Summerfest 5K in 15:44:35 and 19:23:06.
Ben Talbot, 18, took second in 15:53:49 and Paul Johnson, 30, third in 16:50:09.
Kristine Guaraldo was second in the women’s overall finishing in 21:12:23 and Kelly Fiske, 32 was third in 22:14:58. 170 runners took part in the event.
Andrew Sholl, 10 won the 1-Mile Kid’s race with a time of 5:51:31. Willy Burdick, 9, won the women’s overall clocking in at 6:45:58.
Second place kid was Sean McGovern, 11, in 5:57:94 and Maxwell Ornstein, 12, hung in for third in 6:27:84. Second place girl kid was Laura Volan, 10, in 6:57:39 and Bethany Sholl, 7, came in third in 7:40:16. 48 excellent kids finished.
